Preferences may be set here for:

1. Automatic reload when document changes.

This will ensure that changes to the Revit model are automatically detected and the results will update without needing to use the Refresh button.

On larger models, performance can be improved by unchecking this. Unchecking this will disable dynamic updates to the Revit Energy Model each time that changes are made to the model and this will improve performance by allowing you to make several modifications and when complete, you may use the Refresh button on the Dashboard to update the results to include all changes.

Options for Detailed Models

2. Read Shade Surfaces

This option will include energy analysis surfaces that are identified as ‘shade’ surfaces when the Spatial Elements option is used (for models with rooms and spaces).  Sometimes External Walls may be classified as Shade Surfaces if certain conditions exist eg. when they have a parapet behind, they are freestanding walls or where there is no room or space backing onto them etc.

Include reading of Shade Surfaces if required

3. Do not show surfaces smaller than

A setting for reading small surfaces is also provided.  Setting this to an appropriate value will prevent small areas such as service ducts, janitor’s closets etc from being given a separate Surface by the application when using the Spatial Elements option.

Note: this will cause differences in results when selecting all Surfaces in the list as opposed to selecting no Surfaces.

Setting which Surface Areas to include in the analysis

4. Openings Host Tolerance

This option will only be displayed when using Building Elements mode. This setting will help where model elements are in close proximity to glazing such as structural columns close to windows, or where windows are close to the corner of a building etc.

If this is the case, all elements may not be included in the list when Building Elements is chosen as the analysis method. For example, some windows may not be counted. Adjusting the tolerance here may help in this situation.

When using the Building Elements option, set openings tolerance if required to improve accuracy
